The Institute for International Public Policy (IIPP) offers Fellowships for Minority College Sophomores

The Institute for International Public Policy (IIPP) Fellowship Program is a program of the UNCF Special Programs Corporation that is now entering its 14th year. The Institute seeks to enhance U.S. national security and global competitiveness by promoting excellence, international service, and awareness among a representative cross-section of the American citizenry. Summer 2008 UNC in Washington Interns Program - Congratulations, Adrianne Fowlkes Tremain Holloway Lesli Thomas Angela Walker

Capitol BuildingTwo NCCU students will live and work in Washington, DC for the fall 2007 semester. Ms. Jasmyne Jones, a junior English major from Durham, will work at the National Education Association. Ms. Tiara Rivers, a junior political science major from Fort Bragg, N.C. will work in the office of Congressman David Price.

Both students will work in their respective positions from Tuesday through Friday, and will attend a Washington Seminar class from 9:00 until 12:00 noon on Monday. The Washington Seminar will include class room instruction as well as field trips to national monuments, buildings, and other points of interest. While in Washington, students live two blocks from the U.S. Capitol, often within walking distance of their internship locations. Former UNC in Washington interns include: Ms. JaMeese Mangum, Ms. Adebola Olofintuyi, Ms. Patrice Mobley, Mr. Bernard Baze, Mr. Sean Kornegay, Ms. Jerica Womack, Ms. Layla Brown, Ms. Kenice Mobley, and Ms. Natalia Pearson-Farrer.

Applications are now being accepted for the Spring 2008 UNC in Washington Program. They are available from Mrs. Tonya Winchester in the Career Services Office (lower level of the William Jones Building), or from Mrs. Regina Alston in the Office of National and International Fellowships (234 Communications Building). The deadline is September 26, 2007 at 5:00 P.M. Students should be juniors with at least a 3.0 GPA. All majors are invited to apply. Application requirements include an official transcript, three letters of recommendation, a writing sample, resume, and Personal Statement.

ns to North Carolina Central University English/Spanish Major, Layla Brown, Psychology Major, Kenice Mobley, and English/Business Major, Natalia Pearson-Farrer, on being selected for participation in the UNC in Washington Program!  This current Spring, NCCU students Bernard Baze, History Major, Sean Kornegay, English Major, and Jerica Womack, Political Science major, worked in internships in the UNC in Washington Program.

Why not spend the fall 2007 semester living and working in Washington, DC! . The UNC in Washington Program is open to a variety of majors—not just political science or history. Gain valuable experience, meet new people, and enhance your intellectual and personal skills! The program’s primary goal is to provide an opportunity for students from the University system ’s constituent institutions to work, study, and make valuable contacts in Washington, D.C., through internships at organizations such as the U.S. Congress, the U.S. executive branch, and national think tanks and interest groups. Interns also spend three hours per week in an academic seminar, the Washington Experience. Students spend up to 32 hours per week in internships, matched with supervisors who will integrate them into the daily operation of the organizations and help them define research projects of importance to the organization.  Student internships result in tangible products such as briefings, research memos, policy analyses, and working papers.

NCCU allocates $75,000 for students professional development activities
The Office of the Provost at NCCU has allocated $75,000 for students to engage in professional development activities, such as conferences, workshops, symposiums, and training sessions that are aimed at enhancing scholarship and professional experiences in your respected major(s). Summer Internships Abroad
The U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), is seeking university or college students (juniors, seniors and graduate students) interested in receiving an internship in Europe and Eurasia as described in the linked solicitation (Click HERE).

Summer Program Pays Your Tuition at Georgetown U
The Institute for Responsible Citizenship is currently accepting applications for its summer program at Georgetown University in Washington, DC. Promising young minority, male college sophomores will be given the chance to engage in prestigious internships while taking classes at Georgetown U. Tuition and housing are paid for by the Institute. In addition, those not placed in paid internships will receive a stipend in the amount of $2500. For more information, click HERE.

Scholarship Deadlines Approaching!: The $40,000 Simon Fellowship (details below), February 25, 2007 (Start now for a non-frenzied application process!). The Simon Fellowship is a $40,000 unrestricted cash grant awarded to those graduating college seniors who have demonstrated passion, dedication, a high capacity for self-direction, and originality in pursuit of a goal that will strengthen civil society.  In addition, two $5,000 cash awards are also made. Consider the Rhodes Scholarship (rhodesscholar.org) for 2007. Applying for this lucrative and prestigious scholarship requires nomination from NCCU. The campus deadline for the Woodrow Wilson Center Scholarship application is in late September. Application information, requirements, and and a form are available HERE.

Integrated Technology Transfer Network (ITTN) Program Fellowships
This is a 12-month paid program for graduate-level science students. Selected students will have all costs of the program covered by the fellowship, including tuition, fees, books and course materials, housing, transportation and a generous living stipend. Students may apply for the program online at
www.nafeoip.org.

directed by Mrs. Regina R. Alston, is dedicated to helping NCCU students present themselves effectively to compete for prestigious national awards that can help pay college expenses, introduce students to leaders in their field, and strengthen their resumes.
The Office provides information about available awards, advice on application preparation, and assistance throughout the process.
