Those students electing to pursue teaching as a career will fulfill all necessary requirements to receive a K-12 teaching certificate in the State of North Carolina. All teaching majors will complete a second concentration consisting of 24 credit hours in either English, History, Sociology or Psychology.

What are the salary ranges I can expect with a degree in Physical Education?
Entry-level teachers earn $23,000 - 33,000 (depending on the school district).

Not for the initial teaching licensure.

In order to obtain the initial teaching licensure students must take and pass PRAXIS II a national examination.

Do I need to be licensed?
Yes, in order to teach in the State of North Carolina, all teachers must be licenced. The Department of Physical Education and Recreation and NCCU School of Education work together to provide the students the professional preparation needed to pass the licensure as well as the skills needed to be a successful teacher.

Is there an internship or field experience required, and if so, how many hours?
The students in the teaching major must complete a full semester of student teaching (Internship).

The faculty of the Department notify the students of possible job openings as they acquire them.
