Undergraduate Sociology Program Requirements 

 

  • Complete a minimum of 124 semester hours with a cumulative grade point average of 2.0 or higher. The last 30 hours must be completed at NCCU. 
  • Freshman and sophomore years: complete the Critical Foundations in Arts and Sciences (CFAS) Program.
  • Social science electives: complete two courses from GEOG 1000, POLS 2100, PSY 2100.
  • Complete the following major requirements:

     

    • SOCI 2100, 2400, 3200, 3220, 4210, 3700. 

     

    • One course from SOCI 3600, EDU 3700, and MATH 2500. 

     

    • Three courses selected from any undergraduate sociology courses not previously used.

     

    • Only SOCW 2500, 3420, and 3600 may be used as sociology electives without departmental permission.

Students may choose to minor in sociology by completing a minimum of 21 semester hours in sociology courses in addition to their major requirements. Students choosing this minor must complete the following: SOCI 2100, 2400, 3200, 3210, 4600, 4700, and one other sociology course chosen by the student as an elective.
