For the fourth time in the past seven years, North Carolina Central University received the Loretta Taylor All-Sports Trophy, recognizing the top all-around women's program in the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association. The North Carolina Central University Lady Eagles earned a 7-4 victory over Bowie State in the 2006 CIAA Women's Softball Championship title-game, as the Lady Eagles completed the championship undefeated en route to the conference crown Sunday on the campus of Virginia State University. JONES NAMED TRACK EVENT MVP AT CIAA CHAMPIONSHIPS; NCCU MEN FINISH SECOND, WOMEN THIRD
North Carolina Central University freshman Brandon Jones won three track events en route to being named male track event MVP at the CIAA Championships on the campus of Virginia State University on Saturday.  The NCCU men finished second overall behind Saint Augustine's College and the women finished third, just 25 points behind champion Bowie State University. North Carolina Central University snapped a four-match scoreless streak against CIAA men's tennis powerhouse Shaw University on Tuesday as junior Joseph Estevez and sophomore Jermaine Byrd teamed up for a doubles victory during an 8-1 loss to the visiting Bears. NCCU junior forward Cassie King amassed her 11th double-double of the season with 19 points and 10 rebounds, senior point guard Porschia Holmes finished one assists shy of a double-double with 14 points and nine assists, and senior forward Lisa Richardson scored a career-high 17 points. NCCU sophomore Brandon Gilbert kicked a 30-yard field goal with three seconds remaining to lift the Eagles to a 26-23 victory over Bowie State in the 2005 CIAA Championship Game at O'Kelly-Riddick Stadium.
