NCCU'S RICHARDSON, FUTRELL CLAIM WEEKLY CONFERENCE HONORS

HAMPTON, VA -- North Carolina Central University senior Lisa Richardson and freshman Charles Futrell claimed weekly basketball honors from the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) for the week of Dec. 25-31.
Richardson, a 5-11 forward from Baltimore, Md., was selected as the CIAA Women's Basketball Player of the Week after enjoying the best performance of her Lady Eagle career during NCCU's 63-57 win over Mount Olive College on Friday (Dec. 30). Against the Trojans, Richardson amassed 16 points, 10 rebounds, three steals, two assists and two blocked shots - all career-highs.
Futrell, a 6-6 forward from Fayetteville, N.C., was voted CIAA Men's Basketball Rookie of the Week after recording game-highs of 19 points and 10 rebounds during a 70-60 loss at Columbus State University. The effort was his third double-double in five games since joining the team after playing wide receiver and quarterback for the NCCU football team. This is Futrell's second CIAA Rookie of the Week honor.
On Saturday (Jan. 7), NCCU hosts Fayetteville State University in the first conference contests of the season. The action at McLendon-McDougald Gymnasium begins with the women's game at 5:30 p.m., as the Lady Eagles (9-1) look to improve upon their best start in school history.
