NCCU'S BEATTY, SPENCE EARN WEEKLY CONFERENCE HONORS
HAMPTON, VA - North Carolina Central University
senior guard Tiona Beatty and head men's basketball coach Phil
Spence have earned weekly honors from the Central Intercollegiate Athletic
Association.

Beatty, a 5-5 shooting guard out of Queens, NY, was voted CIAA Women's
Basketball Player of the Week after averaging 26.7 points, 3.0 rebounds,
2.7 steals and 2.0 assists in three games last week. In her best performance,
she scored a season-best 30 points on 10-for-16 shooting, including 5-for-7
from three-point range, against Saint Augustine's College on Jan. 10.
A pre-season All-CIAA selection and team captain,
Beatty is currently second in the league in scoring with an average of
20.6 points per contest. She is also second in three-point field goals
made (2.43 per game) and third in three-point field goal percentage (39.1
percent).
Spence, now in his fourth season at the helm
of the NCCU basketball program, was selected CIAA Men's Basketball Coach
of the Week after the Eagles improved to 3-1 in conference play with impressive
road wins over Shaw University and Saint Augustine's last week. With a
2-0 divisional record, NCCU is now on top of the CIAA West standings.
