NCCU SWEEPS WEEKLY CIAA BASEBALL AWARDS
HAMPTON, VA – North Carolina Central University
freshman shortstop Justin Goodson was selected as the CIAA Baseball
Player of the Week as the Eagles swept the weekly conference baseball honors,
the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association announced Thursday.
Other Eagles recognized on the league's weekly
honor roll are rookie hurler Alex Weathersby as CIAA Pitcher of
the Week, junior utility player Robert Landis as CIAA Offensive
Player of the Week and head coach Henry White as CIAA Coach of the
Week.
In four games during the week of March 12-18,
Goodson (Atlanta, Ga.) hit for a .429 batting average, going 6-for-14 at
the plate with a double, a home run, five runs scored and three runs batted.
In the field, he recorded 15 putouts and 12 assists without committing
an error.
Weathersby (Raleigh, N.C.) picked up a victory
against Voorhees College in his only appearance of the week, holding the
Tigers to a .269 batting average in seven innings of work.
Landis (Winston-Salem, N.C.) posted a .429
batting average by hitting safely in 6-of-14 plate appearances with a double,
a home run, three runs scored, three RBI and three walks.
