WHITE, TWO EAGLES EARN CIAA WEEKLY BASEBALL AWARDS
HAMPTON, VA – North Carolina Central University
junior utility player Robert Landis was selected as the CIAA Baseball
Player of the Week, sophomore outfielder Oliver Jenkins as the CIAA
Defensive Player of the Week and head coach Henry White as CIAA
Coach of the Week.
In four games
during the week of March 19-26, Landis (Winston-Salem, NC) hit for a .706
batting average, going 12-for-17 at the plate with a double, two home runs,
nine runs scored and 11 runs batted in. Against Saint Paul's College on
Mar. 26, Landis hit two home runs, scored three runs and drove in three
runs as well.
Jenkins, a native of Rocky Mount, N.C. and
NCCU's starting center-fielder, amassed 18 putouts without recording an
error.
In its first year of baseball since 1975,
White has NCCU in first place in the CIAA with a 9-1 conference record.
During the week, the Eagles posted a 6-1 record with CIAA doubleheader
sweeps of Virginia State, St. Paul's and St. Augustine's.
NCCU's final home games of the season will
be a doubleheader tilt against Elizabeth City State University on Mar.
31 at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00
p.m.
