Virginia State University wins 2002 CIAA Bowling ChampionshipNovember 19, 2002Kernersville, NC- Virginia State University's Lynette Payne strikes three times in the last frame of the championship game to make the Lady Trojans the 2002 CIAA Bowling Champions. The Lady Trojans defeated North Carolina Central University, 200-134,196-151,159-145 in the best 3 out of 5 baker format double elimination championship. Virginia State University stayed alive, winning the first match in the double elimination championship. In a 3-1 series, game four saw Lynette Payne, Charlynda Credle, Tawanie Brown, and Lauren Nelson, rolled consecutive strikes to win 196-151. North Carolina Central University advanced to the finals by defeating Virginia State University in the winner bracket. NeClea Coleman rolled three straight strikes in the tenth frame to advance the Lady Eagles to the championship round. The Lady Eagles won by one point over the Lady Trojans 151-150. Virginia State University battled out of the loser's bracket by going
5 games with the Elizabeth City State University. The Lady Vikings won
the first and third games; VSU pulled out the 5 game by 12 pins, 169-157.
