Four North Carolina Central University Eagles have been voted to the American Urban Radio Networks 2006 SBN Sports Black College All-American (BCAA) Team, including freshman quarterback Stadford Brown as the "SBN Sports Doug Williams Offensive Player of the Year" NCCU head coach Rod Broadway as the "SBN Sports Eddie Robinson Coach of the Year." North Carolina Central University has been declared the 2006 Sheridan Broadcasting Network Black College Football National Champions, the school's first such title in the 33 years SBN Sports Network has conducted the poll. [Full Story]

Ten North Carolina Central University Eagles have been voted to the 2006 Daktronics All-Southeast Region football team, selected by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). A historic season came to an end Saturday, as Delta State University defeated North Carolina Central University 24-17 in the second round of the NCAA Division II playoffs. North Carolina Central University's football team returns home for its regular-season finale and homecoming against Johnson C. Smith University. The Eagles, who clinched their second-consecutive CIAA western division title last week, look to complete the first perfect regular season in school history. NCCU took advantage of Livingstone miscues as the Eagles defeated the Blue Bears 37-15. The victory provides NCCU the best start in school history and a spot in the CIAA Championship Game on Nov. 11 in Durham, N.C., where the defending conference champs will face the winner of next week's Elizabeth City State/Virginia Union contest. NCCU travels to Salisbury, N.C. to face the Livingstone College Blue Bears at 2 p.m. at Alumni Memorial Stadium for LC's Homecoming game. The Eagles will have a chance to clinch the CIAA's Western Division title for the second consecutive season and become the first squad in school history to start a season 9-0. Former NCCU football student-athlete and assistant coach Robert Massey is head coach at Livingstone. [Full Story

At his annual Tuesday press conference, NCCU head coach Rod Broadway said Langston University (4-2) was the best team the Eagles would play in some time. That echoed true at O'Kelly-Riddick Stadium on Saturday, as NCCU (8-0, 5-0) held off a challenging Lions squad, 31-21. NCCU is now 8-0 for just the second time in school history (1941) and the first time in 65 years. [Full Story]

After completing its four-game road trip undefeated, NCCU returns to O'Kelly-Riddick Stadium for the first time in 42 days. The Eagles will step out of conference to face NAIA  member Langston University (Okla.). With a win, NCCU would start 8-0 for the second time in school history and the first time in 65 years. Saturday is also NCCU's "Hall of Fame Game," as 11 individuals and three teams will be recognized at  halftime as members of the NCCU Alex M. Rivera Athletic Hall of Fame, Class of 2006. North Carolina Central University offensive lineman Sam Funches, wide receiver Charles Futrell and placekicker Brandon Gilbert were named CIAA players of the week at their respective positions for the week of Oct. 14., after NCCU's 49-6 win at Fayetteville State University. [Full Story

North Carolina Central University held Fayetteville State University to just 203 total yards of offense and forced six turnovers, as the Eagles defeated the preseason pick to win the CIAA's Western Division, 49-6, at Luther "Nick" Jeralds Stadium in Fayetteville, N.C. [Full Story

NCCU finishes its four-game road trip with a contest against CIAA division rival FSU.  NCCU has won 23 of its last 26 contests overall, nine straight conference games and seven straight road contests. North Carolina Central University quarterback Stadford Brown was named Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Rookie of the Week, junior defensive back Craig Amos Defensive Back of the Week, junior placekicker Brandon Gilbert Specialty Player of the Week and head coach Rod Broadway Coach of the Week after NCCU's 27-18 victory against Saint Augustine's College. North Carolina Central University defensive coordinator Clifford Yoshida is known in the Baton Rouge area as a defensive specialist and a great coach, since he helped Southern University to an 11-1 record and a Black College National Championship as the Jaguars' defensive coordinator in 1993. On Saturday, Yoshida's Eagle defense proved his reputation to be true, as NCCU forced seven turnovers (six interceptions and one fumble recovery) en route to a 27-20 victory over NCAA Division I-AA foe Southern in front of 12,845 fans at A.W. Saturday's contest against Division I-AA Southern will be NCCU's first road contest since a 34-14 victory at  Johnson C. Smith University on Oct. 29, 2005, and the longest  regular-season journey in the school's gridiron history. NCCU head coach Rod Broadway called the outing a "business trip."
