NCCU'S MOHAMMED, SMITH TO PARTICIPATE IN NCAA LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE

DURHAM, NC -- North Carolina Central University sophomore student-athlete Hakeem Mohammed (Winston-Salem, NC) and Assistant Athletics Director George Smith have been selected to participate in the 2005 NCAA Leadership Conference, May 29-June 2 at Disney's Wide World of Sports Complex and Coronado Springs Resort in Lake Buena Vista, Florida.
Mohammed, a sprinter on the NCCU track & field team, is one of 324 student-athletes from Division I, II and III national Student-Athlete Advisory Committees to be picked from 1,166 nominations.
Smith, now in his fifth year as an athletics administrator at NCCU, will participate for the second consecutive year as a program facilitator.
NCCU student-athletes who have participated in the NCAA Leadership Conference previously include: Ariel Germain, volleyball, 2004; and Ayana Wright, volleyball, 2003.
The NCAA Leadership Conference provides NCAA student-athletes with a forum to openly discuss issues that may affect them on their campuses and in their communities, while also providing them with the opportunity to enhance their leadership, communication, decision-making and problem-solving skills. The leadership conference also promotes better communication among student-athletes, coaches, administrators, faculty and communities. The five-day leadership conference consists of daily exercises and activities to help the student-athletes develop as individuals and as contributing members to a group.
