RAY SPARKS EAGLES TO SEASON-OPENING WIN IN SEATTLE
SEATTLE, WA - North Carolina Central
University senior Shawn Ray amassed game-highs of 29 points and
12 rebounds to spark the Eagles to an 86-73 season-opening victory over
Lewis & Clark College in game one action of the Seattle (WA) University
Tip-Off Classic.
Ray missed only four shot attempts all night,
connecting on 12-of-16 from the field, including 4-for-5 from three-point
land, and sinking his only free throw.
A pair of transfers made significant contributions
for the Eagles. Anthony Moore, a product of Winthrop University
in his first start at NCCU, scored 19 points, while Adrian Warren,
a West Virginia University transfer, came off the bench for 12 points and
9 boards.
NCCU (1-0) felt right at home in the great
Northwest, shooting 52 percent from the field (34-for-66), 41 percent from
long range (9-for-22) and 82 percent from the foul line (9-for-11).
Lewis & Clark (0-1), ranked No. 9 in NCAA
Division III at the end of last season, posted four Pioneers in double-figures,
topped by Kristofer Speier with team-highs of 24 points and 8 rebounds.
Ryan Wells added 18 points, while Tommy Magnuson and Danny Winchester scored
13 points each.
NCCU took a 44-31 advantage into the locker
room at the half, then led by as much as 24 points (73-49) with less than
10 minutes to play in the contest.
