NCCU'S NICKENS REPEATS AS CIAA ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
HAMPTON, VA - North Carolina Central University guard Charles Nickens
has been selected as the CIAA Men's Basketball Rookie of the Week for the
second consecutive week, the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association
announced Sunday.
Nickens, a red-shirt freshman out of Southern High
School in Durham, NC, averaged 13.5 points on 50 percent shooting from
the floor, including 5-for-8 from 3-point range, in two games last week.
During a Dec. 3 road victory over Virginia State, Nickens scored 15 points
on 6-of-12 shooting, including 3 triples.
Two weeks ago, Nickens averaged 18.5 points to take
home conference rookie of the week honors. He recorded 20 points, 3 assists,
2 rebounds, a steal and a blocked shot during a 106-100 victory over Pfeiffer
University (Nov. 30).
Nickens is currently third in the league in 3-point
field goal percentage (54.8 percent) and fourth in 3-point field goals
made (2.83 per game). He is second on the team with a 13.2 scoring average.
