NCCU'S FUTRELL VOTED CONFERENCE ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Lady Eagles Head Coach Robinson Also Earns Weekly CIAA Honors

HAMPTON, VA - North Carolina Central University forward Charles Futrell has been selected as the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Men's Basketball Rookie of the Week for the week of Dec. 4-10, while Lady Eagles head coach Joli Robinson has been recognized as the CIAA Women's Basketball Coach of the Week.
Futrell, a 6-6, 198-pound native of Fayetteville, N.C., scored 12 points and grabbed a game-high 17 rebounds, including 12 in the first half, during a 93-50 victory over Columbus State University on Saturday (Dec. 10).
After finishing his junior season as a wide receiver and quarterback on the CIAA Championship football team, Futrell decided to hit the hardwood for the first time in his college career. His transition has been near flawless. In three games for the Eagles, Futrell has two double-doubles and is averaging 12.3 points and 12.7 rebounds per contest.
Up next for NCCU (2-6) is a road trip to Georgia to play Fort Valley State on Dec. 28 and Columbus State on Dec. 30. The Eagles return home on Jan. 7 to host Fayetteville State in the team's conference opener.
Robinson, now in her 10th season at NCCU, was tagged as the CIAA Coach of the Week after the Lady Eagles defeated Catawba College 59-43 to improve their overall record to 7-1, marking the best start in the program's history.
