After three close CIAA quarterfinal games, the final contest featuring top seed Virginia Union and No. 8 seed North Carolina Central appeared to be a blowout in the making. But the Panthers held off a second-half Eagles rally for a 79-68 victory on Thursday at Charlotte Bobcats Arena. [Full Story]

A matchup between the eighth and ninth seeded teams are usually close and dramatic games, and a first-round CIAA Tournament matchup between North Carolina Central University and Saint Paul's College on Wednesday followed the same pattern. The No. 8 seeded Eagles held on for a 75-74 victory on Chris Mayshack's 3-pointer with 37 seconds left, but they couldn't breath easy until Maurice Boatwright of the No. 9 seeded Tigers missed a three-pointer in closing seconds.    Freshman Jimmy Boston was selected to the 1998 Daktronics/All-South Atlantic Region Men's Basketball Team.An All-Region Second Team honoree, Boston was also recently named the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Rookie of the Year after averaging 12.1 points and 9.8 rebounds per game during the 1997-98 season.
