Dismal Shooting Hurts NCCU in Loss to Virginia Union

DURHAM, NC -- North Carolina Central University men's basketball shot just 37 percent from the field (24-for-65), including 31 percent shooting in the decisive second half, en route to a 74-67 loss to Virginia Union at NCCU's McLendon-McDougald Gym.
NCCU (13-10) trailed by as much as 11 points in the first half, as Virginia Union (17-5) leaped out to a 19-8 lead.  The Eagles later responded with a 19-6 run to take a 32-30 advantage.  To end the first half, NCCU senior guard Adrian McCrae connected on a half-court shot as time expired to provide the Eagles with a 37-35 halftime lead.
In the second half, NCCU seemed in control with a 55-46 lead, but the Panthers went on a 14-2 run to take the lead for good.
Each team posted five players in double-figure scoring.  NCCU was topped by Damon Lumpkin (13), MarQus Johnson (12), D.J. Ward (11), Jimmy Boston (10), and Adrian McCrae (10), who scored a season-high in his final regular-season home game at NCCU.
Virginia Union was led by William Davis with 16 points, 6 rebounds, 6 assists and 4 steals.
