NCCU'S BOSTON SELECTED ALL-SOUTH ATLANTIC REGION

by Bryan Jerrod Harvey -- Sports Information Student Assistant

(Durham, NC - Mar. 5, 2001)  The North Carolina Central University men's basketball team may have finished its season on Thursday, Mar. 1, 2001, but someone forgot to tell NCCU's Jimmy Boston.  Four days after the end of the season, NCCU's Boston is still earning honors.
On Monday, March 5, Boston was named to the 2000-01 DAKTRONICS INC./CoSIDA NCAA DIVISION II BASKETBALL ALL-SOUTH ATLANTIC REGION FIRST TEAM.
Boston is a 6-foot-7 senior from Washington High School in Washington, North Carolina.  Playing the forward and center position four years at North Carolina Central University under former head coach Greg Jackson (now head coach at Delaware State University in Dover, DE), and first year head coach Phil Spence, Boston has put up numbers that are representative of his talents on and off the court.
Throughout his career, Boston finished ninth on NCCU's all-time scoring list with 1,376 points (14.0 ppg).  He placed second on the school's all-time free-throws made list with 376, trailing NBA Hall-of-Fame member Sam Jones from the Boston Celtics.
Boston has amassed 801 rebounds (8.2 rpg), 101 assists, 100 blocked shots, and 75 steals throughout his playing tenure (1997-2001) at NCCU.
After being named to the First Team All-CIAA and CIAA All-Tournament Team, the national association of sports information directors (CoSIDA) thought that Boston was good enough to also be invited to be on the All-South Atlantic Region Team.
Boston, affectionately known as "J.B." around the NCCU campus, has also been named as a two-time First Team All-CIAA and CIAA All-Tournament Team member, as well as CIAA Rookie of the Year and Second Team All-South Atlantic Region as a freshman in 1997-98.
Just a few days ago, Boston was also selected to play in the annual Black College All-Star Basketball Game on April 21 in Baltimore, MD.
