NCCU'S PEREZ THREE-PEATS AS CIAA MEN'S TENNIS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Eagle Freshman Allsop Claims Conference Weekly Rookie Honors
HAMPTON, VA – North Carolina Central University sophomore transfer Andres
Perez and freshman Stephen Allsop have received weekly conference
men’s tennis honors, the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association announced
on Tuesday (April 10).
A native of Santiago, Chile, Perez was named
the CIAA Men's Tennis Player of the Week for the third consecutive week.
Perez posted a 2-1 record at the No. 1 singles position during the week
of April 2-8. His only setback was to the top-ranked player in the league,
Ibukun Ilesanmi of Shaw University, in a battle that came down to a third
set 10-8 decision. On the season, Perez has a 13-5 overall singles record.
Allsop (Beltsville, Md.) was named CIAA Rookie
of the Week after posting perfect 3-0 records at No. 6 singles and No.
3 doubles during the week. Through April 8, he had won four consecutive
singles matches and all eight of his doubles contests during his freshman
campaign.
