NCCU SOFTBALL TAKES TWO FROM UNBEATEN BOWIE STATE
DURHAM, NC – North Carolina Central University
utilized a dramatic last inning comeback and clutch hitting to sweep a
softball doubleheader (10-9, 4-3) from Bowie State University on Thursday
at Hillside High School in Durham, N.C.
In game one, NCCU trailed 9-5 heading into
its half of the seventh and final inning. Freshman DeSanbra Franklin, senior
Latisha Judd, sophomore Francheska Pittman and freshman Antoinette Lomuscio
all recorded two-out hits in the seventh. Lomuscio's double, that scored
Judd and freshman Victoria James, provided the Lady Eagles with the final
10-9 victory.
NCCU sophomore pitcher Stacey Greene struck
out three batters and scattered six hits to pick up her second victory
in as many days.
In game two, NCCU, led by sophomore third
baseman Sophia Blue defeated BSU. Blue, a native of Hope Mills, N.C., hit
two home runs and drove in three runs to lead head coach Larry Keen's squad
to the 4-3 win.
NCCU improves to 14-8 overall (6-0 CIAA),
while BSU falls to 6-2 overall..
The Lady Eagles will travel to Saint Paul's
College on Saturday for a double-header. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00
p.m.
