NCCU'S JONES NAMED CIAA SOFTBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK
HAMPTON, VA -- North Carolina Central University senior pitcher Jennifer
Jones has been selected as the CIAA Softball Player of the Week after
tossing a perfect game and smashing two home runs last week.
A native of Louisburg, NC, Jones struck out
12 of the 15 batters she faced during her perfect outing en route to a
9-0 game one victory against Livingstone College on March 28.
In the second game, Jones held the Lady Blue
Bears hitless through six innings, but settled for a one-hit, 14-1 win
with 10 strikeouts. She also contributed at the plate, going 3-for-3 with
a triple, two home runs, four RBI and four runs scored.
On the season, Jones, a transfer from North
Carolina A&T, has an overall record of 8-3 with an earned run average
of 5.37. She now has two no-hit efforts, including a no-hitter versus Bowie
State University in her first contest as a Lady Eagle on March 7.
At the plate, Jones is third on the team with
a .447 batting average (17-for-38), second on the squad with 17 RBI and
a .921 slugging percentage, and leads the Lady Eagles with 19 runs scored.
