NCCU'S STEANS THROWS NO-HITTER AGAINST ST. AUGUSTINE'S
DURHAM, NC -- North Carolina Central University junior pitcher Clarisse
Steans tossed the fourth no-hitter of her collegiate career and the
second of the season Tuesday night during a 13-0 game two victory over
Saint Augustine's College at Hillside High School in Durham, N.C.
NCCU swept the doubleheader from the Lady
Falcons (18-3, 13-0) to remain perfect in conference play with a 14-0 CIAA
record, while improving to 24-13 overall.
Steans amassed seven strikeouts and walked
three batters during her no-hit performance, which was preserved by a lunging
stop of a ground ball in the hole by rookie third baseman Sophia Blue
in the fourth inning. Blue also went 4-for-4 at the plate with four runs
scored and an RBI.
In game one, NCCU exploded for 10 runs in
the bottom of the first inning and cruised to an 18-3 victory. Junior shortstop
Asha
Sutton hit 2-for-3 with a double, a triple and eight RBIs to top the
Lady Eagles.
