North Carolina Central UniversitySOFTBALLThe Official Web Site of the North Carolina Central University "Eagle" Athletics DepartmentNCCU SPLITS DOUBLEHEADER WITH SAINT AUGUSTINE'S (DURHAM, NC - April 5, 2001) After dropping the first game in the bottom of the seventh inning to Saint Augustine's, North Carolina Central University rallied for a 21-4 win in game two to split a conference doubleheader at Hillside Park in Durham. In game one, the Lady Eagles held a 5-4 lead heading into the bottom half of the final inning, but the Lady Falcons (the designated home team) notched three straight hits, including the game-winning two-run double by Shameka McKinney, to claim a 6-5 victory. Saint Augustine's pitcher Jennifer Lewis scattered 7 hits, allowed 5 unearned runs and struck out 7 to pick up the win. NCCU's Lisa Hicks collected 5 strikeouts in defeat. Lady Eagle freshman Adija Beaty topped the NCCU offense by going 2-for-3 with 2 runs batted in (RBI). In game two, NCCU scored in every inning, including 8 runs in the third to blow the contest open. Lady Eagle freshman hurler Jahara Hojilla allowed 3 earned runs and 5 hits, while striking out 5 batters for the win. Hojilla also went 3-for-4 at the plate with 2 doubles, a triple, 5 RBI and 2 runs scored. Junior shortstop Lanelle Turner hit 2-for-3 with 5 RBI and 4 runs scored for NCCU (10-6). Senior center fielder Latisha McEachern celebrated her birthday by going 2-for-4 with 3 RBI and 3 runs scored in game two.
