Clarisse Steans     BOWIE, MD - North Carolina Central University rookie pitcher Clarisse Steans (Macon, GA) tossed her first collegiate no-hitter Friday during a doubleheader sweep (12-0, 10-1) of Bowie State University at Whitemarsh Complex in Bowie, Maryland.
Steans struck out eight of the 19 batters she faced, while holding the Lady Bulldogs hitless in the 12-0 game one victory. She went on to scatter five hits with two strike outs during a 10-1 game two win.
In game one, NCCU amassed 12 hits and plated a run in every inning, including five runs in the third and four in the fifth. Sophomore Candace Spruill (Raleigh, NC) contributed a double and a triple for NCCU.
In game two, NCCU held a 4-1 lead after four innings of work, but blew the game open with a six-run fifth inning. The Lady Eagles had just six hits to five for Bowie State, but NCCU took advantage of six Lady Bulldog errors to plate 10 runs.
NCCU center fielder Adija Beaty (Landover, MD) led the way with two hits, including a double, and two RBI.
The Lady Eagles improve to 15-18 overall and 14-6 in the CIAA, and have won 13 of their last 16 games, including a six-game win streak. Bowie State falls to 7-15 overall and 7-11 in conference play.
