NCCU SOFTBALL RALLIES TO SWEEP LIVINGSTONE
DURHAM, NC -- North Carolina Central
University rallied in the second game of a doubleheader with Livingstone
College to avoid an upset by the Lady Blue Bears, as the Lady Eagles swept
the twin bill 17-3, 16-6 at Hillside High School in Durham, N.C. on Thursday.
After suffering a 17-3 loss in game one, Livingstone
jumped out to a 6-3 lead against the heavily-favored Lady Eagles in the
nightcap. NCCU then exploded for 13 runs in the bottom of the fourth inning
to roll to a 16-6 win.
Freshman Jessica Davidson picked up
both victories for the Lady Eagles, as NCCU improves to a school-best 29-14
overall record, including 19-1 in CIAA play.
During NCCU's 17-3 game one win, rookie first
baseman Casey Rodriquez hit 4-for-4, including a two-run blast in
the first inning, to finish with four RBIs. Junior shortstop Asha Sutton
hit 3-for-5 with five RBIs and four runs scored, while freshman third baseman
Sophia
Blue had a pair of triples and three RBIs for the Lady Eagles.
Livingstone was topped by Vanria Smith and
Lamika Davis with two hits and an RBI apiece.
In game two, NCCU senior left fielder Candace
Spruill belted two home runs, while Blue contributed three hits, including
two doubles, and four RBIs.
Davis led the Lady Blue Bears with two hits
and four RBIs.
