NCCU PITCHER JONES VOTED FIRST TEAM ALL-CONFERENCE
Four Lady Eagles Selected to the CIAA All-Rookie Team
CHARLOTTE, NC -- North Carolina Central University senior pitcher Jennifer
Jones has been named to the All-CIAA Softball First Team, while four
Lady Eagle teammates earned CIAA All-Rookie Team honors, the Central Intercollegiate
Association announced Friday from the conference softball tournament in
Charlotte, NC.
A native of Louisburg, NC, Jones topped the CIAA
in strikeouts, sitting down 144 batters in 113 innings of work. Along the
way the transfer from North Carolina A&T tossed two no-hitters, including
a perfect game versus Livingstone College on March 28.
Jones was also one of the best in the league at
the plate, leading the Lady Eagles out of the cleanup spot with a .522
batting average, a .899 slugging percentage, and 34 runs batted in.
Fellow Louisburg, NC native Taheisha Wilder
earned two awards as an All-CIAA Second Team selection and a member of
the CIAA All-Rookie Team. The quick center fielder led NCCU in runs scored
and stolen bases, while hitting .386.
Other Lady Eagles chosen to the CIAA All-Rookie
Team were Candace Spruill, Odessa Perry and Jameka Little.
Spruill, a left fielder from Raleigh, NC, was second on the team with a
.446 batting average and 22 RBI. Perry, a first baseman and back-up pitcher
out of Warrenton, NC, hit .373 and was third on the squad with 19 RBI.
Little, a hitting specialist from Kinston, NC, boasted a .424 batting average
and .818 slugging percentage.
