NCCU's Turner Earns Academic All-District Softball
Honors
(WILLIAMSPORT, PA - May 9, 2002) North
Carolina Central University senior infielder Lanelle Turner has
been voted to the 2002 Verizon Academic All-District III Softball College
Division First Team, as chosen by CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors
of America).
A native of Chester, Virginia, Turner has
earned an overall grade point average of 3.759 with a major of Business
Administration, while also receiving the 2002 Martin & Company Award
in the School of Business and being recognized as a University Scholar.
Turner, an All-CIAA First Team selection in
2002, led this year's Lady Eagles with eight doubles and 80 infield assists.
She was second on the squad with 33 hits, while posting a batting average
of .324 with 25 runs scored and 17 runs batted in.
Turner and the other 10 first team honorees
now move on to the national ballot for 2002 Verizon Academic All-America
consideration.
Last year, while topping the team with 48
hits, 49 runs scored and 74 infield assists, Turner was honored as a member
of the Verizon Academic All-America Softball Second Team in the College
Division.
During her standout career as a four-year
starter at shortstop and second base, Turner recorded a career batting
average of .362 (139 for 384), earned all-conference accolades every season,
and won a team CIAA championship as a freshman in 1999.
