NCCU'S BLUE, ISHIDA CLAIM ALL-AMERICA SOFTBALL HONORS

Michelle Ishida have been announced
as members of the inaugural
Daktronics, Inc./NCAA Division II Softball
All-America Team, both as Second-Team honorees.
Blue, a native of Hope Mills, N.C., was also
voted All-CIAA First Team for the second straight year and was named to
the NCAA Division II Mid-Atlantic Region All-Tournament Team. Blue tops
the NCAA Division II in triples (14) and runs scored (75), and among the
nation's leaders ranks second in toughest to strikeout (2 strikeouts in
162 at-bats), third in stolen bases (46), fifth in batting average (.500),
seventh in slugging percentage (.821), and 26th in runs batted in (46).
She broke school’s single-season record with 14 triples and was involved
in 10 double plays from her third base position.
Ishida, a native of San Gabriel, Calif., is one of only three freshmen
to earn All-America recognition on the inaugural team. She was picked as
the 2007 Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Rookie of
the Year and claimed All-CIAA Second Team honors after leading the conference
with 17 doubles and 56 RBI, which rank 11th and 15th in the nation, respectively.
A starter in every game as a freshman, Ishida finished with a .398 batting
average, 46 runs scored, four triples, five home runs, 17 walks and 18
stolen bases.
As a team, the Lady Eagles earned school’s
first-ever at-large bid to the NCAA Division II regional playoffs and finished
with a 20-0 conference record and a 31-13 overall mark.
