NCCU's Spindler Named CIAA Softball Player of
the Year
Four Other Lady Eagles Earn All-Conference Honors
RICHMOND, VA -- North Carolina Central University
senior Stephanie Spindler has been selected as the 1999 CIAA Softball
Player of the Year, the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association announced
Thursday (April 15).
Spindler, recognized for her leadership and versatility,
played four positions for the Lady Eagles - pitcher, catcher, third base
and shortstop.
A native of Vancouver, Washington, Spindler topped
NCCU during the regular season in hits (33), runs scored (36), walks (13)
and assists (64), while also batting .407 (33-for-81) with 23 RBI, 9 doubles
and 5 home runs. On the mound, she boasted a team-best 4.20 ERA and
45 strikeouts.
Four other Lady Eagles earned all-conference honors.
Sophomore left fielder Rena Armwood was named All-CIAA First Team
after leading NCCU with a .577 batting average, 31 RBI and 6 home runs.
Freshman shortstop Lanelle Turner was chosen All-CIAA Second Team
and CIAA All-Rookie Team, leading the team with 10 doubles. Sophomore
center fielder Latisha McEachern was selected All-CIAA Second Team,
and freshman third baseman Whitney Taylor-Davis was named to the
CIAA All-Rookie Team.
