NCCU's Stephanie Spindler Named CIAA Softball Player of the Week

    HAMPTON, VA (CIAA Headquarters) -- North Carolina Central University pitcher/catcher Stephanie Spindler has been named the CIAA Softball Player of the Week, the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association announced Wednesday.
    During the week (March 15-21), Spindler, a junior from Vancouver, Washington, went 3-0 on the mound with 20 strikeouts, including a no-hitter with eight strikeouts against Saint Paul's (March 20).  At the plate, the team captain hit 13-for-24 (.542) with 15 runs scored, 12 runs batted in, four doubles and three home runs in seven games.  In her best game of the week, Spindler went 3-for-4 with a double, home run and five RBI against Elizabeth City State (March 19).
    On the season, Spindler, an All-CIAA selection in 1998, boasts a .409 batting average (18-for-44) with team-highs in runs scored (22), RBI (17), doubles (6), and home runs (4).
    As a team, the Lady Eagles (6-9, 6-3 CIAA) won five out of seven games during the week.
