DURHAM, NC -- On Saturday (March 18,
2000), for the first time since 1997, North Carolina Central University's
annual LeRoy T. Walker Olympic Development Track & Field Meet will
be held on campus at NCCU's newly-renovated track & field facility.
For the last two years during the renovation
process, the LTW Meet was held at Duke's Wallace Wade Stadium. Renovations
on the NCCU track began in June 1998 and were completed in September 1999.
The NCCU facility (located off Lawson St.) now features a certified eight-lane
polyurethane track and upgraded field event areas.
"We're glad to be home," said NCCU head coach
Michael Lawson, who founded the LeRoy T. Walker Olympic Development Meet
in 1991.
This year's 10th annual event welcomes more
than 140 college student-athletes from NCCU, Saint Augustine's, Shaw, Fayetteville
State, Livingstone, Winston-Salem State, and Barber-Scotia. The first
event begins at 9:00 a.m. Admission is FREE.
