MILLS PLACES FIFTH IN TRIPLE JUMP AT NEW BALANCE INVITATIONAL
NEW YORK -- North Carolina Central University sophomore Jessica Mills
finished fifth in the women's triple jump at the New Balance Collegiate
Invitational in New York City on Saturday.
Mills, a native of Thorofare, N.J., recorded
a leap of 12.58 meters (41-feet, 3.25-inches) in the triple jump and was
the highest finisher from a non-Division I school. Her distance automatically
qualifies the sophomore for the NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field
Championships on March 9-10 in Boston.
The men's 4x400 relay team, which consisted
of Hakeem Mohammed, Brian Hope, Brandon Jones and Maurice Gailey, finished
sixth at the meet. The foursome ran the 1600-meter event in 3:14.69, which
makes them provisional qualifiers for the NCAA Division II Championships.
