NCCU'S SMOOTS, GLOSOVA WIN INDOOR TRACK NATIONAL TITLES
Eagles Earn All-America Honors in Three Other Events at NCAA meet

(BOSTON - March 9, 2002)  North Carolina Central University junior Jason Smoots and senior Katerina Glosova captured individual national championships at the 2002 NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field Championships at the Reggie Lewis Center in Boston Saturday.
Smoots, hailing from Gadsden, Alabama, successfully defended his indoor national title by winning the men's 60-meter dash with a time of 6.66 seconds. The next closest competitor, Tom Green of South Dakota, crossed the line in 6.73.
Now a three-time national champion, Smoots has yet to finish behind a collegiate runner during the indoor season. He placed first in the second heat of Friday's preliminary round with a time of 6.72.
Glosova wins 2002 NCAA Indoor 800m (www.ncaaphotos.com)     Glosova, a native of the Czech Republic who had failed to earn individual All-America honors in three prior trips to NCAA track events, ended her collegiate indoor career as a national champion by winning the women's 800m run with a time of 2:08.73.
Freshman Steven Enoch (Burlington, NC), who earned All-CIAA honors at the indoor
conference meet, placed sixth at the national event with a leap of 15.16m (49' 09") to receive All-America distinction in the triple jump.
Senior Kennisha Moten (Fayetteville, NC), who captured All-America honors at the 2001 NCAA Outdoor Track Championships, repeated that accomplishment in the women's indoor 400m dash by placing eighth with a time of 56.41. Moten ran her fastest time of the season (55.27) in heat two of the preliminaries to qualify for the finals.
NCCU's 4x400m women's relay team, consisting of Moten, Glosova, junior Rosalyn Pollard (Hendersonville, NC) and freshman Lindsay Holmes (Colorado Springs, CO), received All-America honors by placing fifth in 3:49.43. Last year, Moten, Pollard and Glosova were members of the Lady Eagle 4x400m relay which also placed fifth to earn indoor All-America honors.
Freshman Chanda Powell (Durham, NC), competing in her first national championship event, did not advance to the finals of the women's 60m hurdles after placing sixth (9.18 seconds) in heat two of the preliminaries.
Pollard, a member of the All-American 4x400m relay squad, did not run in Saturday's final of the women's 60m dash after finishing sixth (7.72 seconds) in heat two of the preliminary rounds.
In the team standings, NCCU's women finished in a 10th place tie (out of 38 teams) with 15 points, while the men tied for 17th place (out of 38 teams) with 13 points.
