NCCU ROOKIE DAVIS EARNS ALL-AMERICA HONORS IN LONG JUMP
BOSTON – North Carolina Central University
freshman Mark Davis earned All-America honors in the men’s long
jump during day one competition at the 2007 NCAA Division II Indoor Track
& Field Championships inside the Reggie Lewis Center in Boston on Friday
(March 9).
A native of Cape Coral, Fla., Davis recorded
a leap of 7.35-meters (24’ 1.5”) to place fourth in his first national
meet.
NCCU sophomore Christopher Davis (Charlotte,
N.C.) posted the fastest 60-meter time in NCAA Division II this season
by clocking in at 6.71 seconds in the second heat of the men’s 60m dash
preliminaries. Davis and junior Brian Hope (Raleigh, N.C.) will
represent NCCU in the 60m dash finals on Saturday (March 10), as Hope posted
the fifth-fastest time of 6.79 seconds in the preliminaries.
Also advancing to Saturday’s finals for NCCU
are Hope and senior Hakeem Mohammed (Winston-Salem, N.C.) in the
men’s 200m dash, and sophomore Brandon Jones (Lynchburg, Va.) in
the men’s 800m run (1:53.60).
NCCU freshman Carrington Queen (Philadelphia,
Pa.) placed 11th overall in the preliminaries of the 60m hurdles with a
time of 8.37 seconds and did not advance to the finals.
