HOST NCCU WINS 12 EVENTS DURING L.T. WALKER MEET

     DURHAM, NC - North Carolina Central University won 12 events, more than any other school, during the running of the 15th annual LeRoy T. Walker Olympic Development Track & Field Meet on Saturday (March 19) on the campus of NCCU in Durham, NC.
     NCCU's 12 first-place finishes bettered Bowie State University's 11 event victories and Delaware State University's seven wins. 
     The NCCU men's team won nine events with freshman Jamarr Myrick topping the Eagles with first-place efforts in the long jump (21-feet, 8 inches) and triple jump (41' 5.5"), as well as second place in the 400-meter hurdles (1 minute, 1.42 seconds). Other event winners for the Eagles were Detric Branch in the 100m dash (11.02), Austin Hogan in the 400m dash (48.92), Rashaad Lee in the 5000m run (17:27.43), Travis Rogers in the discus throw (120' 7.5"), Jason Roop in the shot put (39' 3"), Dorian Turner in the 200m dash (21.86) and the 4x400m relay team of Hogan, Eric Speer, Turner, and Hakeem Mohammed (3:18.05).
     The NCCU women's team won three events, paced by Sharonda Arnold in the 400m dash (57.42) and Nina Warren in the 100m dash (12.74). Arnold and Warren then teamed up with Tiffany Mitchell and Christina Harris to win the 4x100m relay with a time of 47.95 seconds.
     The top individual performance of the day was turned in by Delaware State's Cuquie Melville, who stole the show by winning four events. She was victorious in the javelin throw (86' 1.25"), the long jump (17' 8.5"), the shot put (32' 11.5") and the 100m hurdles (15.30).
