NCCU HOSTS LEE CALHOUN HIGH SCHOOL INVITATIONAL
DURHAM, NC -- North Carolina Central University welcomes 44 high school track and field teams from North Carolina, Virginia and Maryland for the seventh annual Lee Calhoun High School Invitational on Saturday (March 27) at Wallace Wade Stadium.
Held in memory of NCCU's first Olympic gold medalist, this year's Lee Calhoun Invitational field includes 24 boys' and 20 girls' high school teams, as well as men's and women's college teams from Barber-Scotia, Livingstone, Virginia State, Johnson C. Smith and NCCU.
The first college event is scheduled for a 9 a.m. start, with the high school events getting underway at 10 a.m.  Admission is FREE.

LEE CALHOUN LEGACY
In 1956, Calhoun returned from Melbourne, Australia, as NCCU's first Olympic gold medalist, winning the 110-meter hurdle event.   Four years later, Calhoun became the first back-to-back winner of that event, earning a second gold medal in the 1960 Olympic Games in Rome, Italy.
Now deceased, his memory lives on with the running of the seventh annual Lee Calhoun High School Invitational.
