NCCU's Hampton Named CIAA Tennis Player of the Year
Eagles' Run at Repeat Championship Falls Short in Finals

RICHMOND, VA --  North Carolina Central University cruised into the 1999 CIAA Tennis Championship final on Saturday (April 17) with hopes of repeating as conference champions.
In the finals, the Eagles took a 2-1 lead after doubles play against Johnson C. Smith University.  After NCCU's No. 1 seed Jason Hampton and No. 2 seed Cedric Watkins each posted convincing singles wins, the Eagles needed just one more singles victory to wrap up the conference championship.  It was the Golden Bulls, however, that won the last four singles matches to earn the 1999 CIAA Tennis Championship at East End Park in Durham.
Senior Jason Hampton (New Orleans, LA) was honored as the 1999 CIAA Tennis Player of the Year, the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association announced Friday (April 16).
