     EAGLES VOLLEYBALL AVENGES EARLIER LOSS TO CAMPBELL

     CHARLESTON, NC - The North Carolina Central University Eagles punctuated on a perfect rematch with a win over Campbell University, 3-1, during the first day of the Charleston Southern University Invitational on Friday (Aug. 31).
     NCCU won 30-28 and 30-22 in games one and two. However, Campbell rebounded nicely in game three to secure a 30-28 victory. The Eagles took a 9-2 lead in game three, until costly errors forced the Camels to tie the game at nine all. Campbell finally took over the lead 11-10, but the Eagles fought hard to come within two points of game three.
     NCCU responded in the fourth game to take over by easily winning 30-20.
     NCCU was led by senior Shari Matthews, who banged out a season-high 19 kills along with 15 digs against the Lady Camels. Anielle DaSilva contributed 13 kills and 19 digs for the Eagles.
     Campbell was led by Taylor Deering with a team-high 17 kills and 17 digs, while Emily Werner added 16 kills.
     


NCCU VOLLEYBALL SWEEPS INVITATIONAL HOST CHARLESTON SOUTHERN
 
     CHARLESTON, SC - North Carolina Central University swept tournament host Charleston Southern University, 3-0 (30-23, 30-22, 30-21), during the nightcap of the 2007 CSU Invitational on Friday in Charleston, S.C.
     NCCU (5-2) was led by senior Shari Matthews with 14 kills, while sophomore Naima Stennett collected 11 kills and senior Anielle DaSilva added 10 kills.
     On Saturday, the Eagles will face the Hurricanes of Tulsa University at 1 p.m., and the Hatters of Stetson University at 5 p.m.
