NCCU TO HOST 2006 CIAA VOLLEYBALL ROUND-UP
DURHAM, NC - North Carolina Central University
will host the annual Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association Volleyball
Round-Up, Sept. 15-17, at McLendon-McDougald Gymnasium and the L.T.
Walker Complex on NCCU's campus. Matches will begin Friday at 2 p.m., Saturday
at 9 a.m. and Sunday at 9 a.m.
The CIAA Volleyball Round-Up features all
11 conference teams competing against each other in a cross-divisional
format throughout the weekend. Western Division members include Fayetteville
State University, Johnson C. Smith University, Livingstone College, Saint
Augustine's College and host NCCU; while the Eastern Division consists
of Bowie State University, Elizabeth City State University, Saint Paul's
College, Shaw University, Virginia State University and Virginia Union
University.
NCCU, the two-time defending CIAA champions,
will face St. Paul's Friday at 2 p.m. and Virginia State Friday at 6 p.m.
On Saturday, first-year Eagles head coach
Georgette
Crawford-Crooks' squad will begin play at 2 p.m. in McLendon-McDougald
Gymnasium against Bowie State, before playing Virginia Union at 6 p.m.
in McLendon-McDougald Gym in a rematch of the 2005
CIAA Championship.
The Eagles have 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. tilts with
Shaw and Elizabeth City State, respectively, to close out their 2006 CIAA
Round-Up play.
On the season, NCCU is 7-7 overall and 1-0
in the CIAA.
