NCCU VOLLEYBALL ENDS FOUR-YEAR DROUGHT, DEFEATS ST. AUGUSTINE'S

     DURHAM, NC - North Carolina Central University snapped a four-year losing streak to Saint Augustine's College Wednesday night by defeating the four-time defending CIAA Champion Lady Falcons, 3-0 (30-20, 30-19, 30-28), at the LeRoy T. Walker Complex in Durham, NC.
     It was exactly four years ago (Sept. 22, 2000) when the Lady Eagles last beat St. Augustine's by a 3-1 score in Raleigh, NC. During that time, the Lady Falcons won 10 consecutive matches, including three in the CIAA title match - until Wednesday.
     Junior outside hitter Brenda Brown topped the Lady Eagles with 16 kills and seven digs, extending NCCU's win streak to 10 matches. Sophomore Latoya Tate recorded seven kills and eight digs, senior Danielle Johnson-Webb tallied five kills and five blocks, senior Patricia Rodrigues contributed five kills, six digs and six service aces, and junior Ariel Germain distributed 34 assists for NCCU (12-7, 10-0 CIAA).
   St. Augustine's (8-4, 7-2 CIAA) was led by Aurea Griffith with 11 kills and seven digs, while Samantha Joseph added nine kills.
     NCCU last defeated the Lady Falcons in Durham on Sept. 19, 1998.
     NCCU's current 10-match win streak is the longest since 1998 when the Lady Eagles won 24 matches in a row.
