NCCU VOLLEYBALL DEFEATS FAYETTEVILLE STATE, WINS SCHOOL'S SECOND CIAA WESTERN DIVISION REGULAR-SEASON CHAMPIONSHIP

     DURHAM, NC - North Carolina Central University senior Cherie Wilson sparked the Lady Eagles to a 3-1 (30-25, 30-25, 24-30, 30-23) victory over Fayetteville State University at McLendon-McDougald Gym in Durham, NC, providing the Lady Eagles with the second CIAA Western Division regular-season championship in school history.
     Wilson, one of three seniors honored in a pre-match ceremony, amassed 25 kills, 13 digs, four service aces and three blocks to lead NCCU (19-13, 15-1 CIAA). Fellow senior Danielle Johnson-Webb recorded 20 kills and senior Patricia Rodrigues contributed seven kills and 21 digs. Junior Brenda Brown posted 10 kills and a match-high 31 digs, while junior Ariel Germain tallied 57 assists, 13 digs and five blocks for the Lady Eagles.
     "It's a great feeling for my staff, the girls on this team, and NCCU to have won the Western Division title," said Lady Eagle head coach Ingrid Wicker-McCree. "It has been a long season, and I am proud of this team. I hope this is a good indicator as to how well we will play this weekend (in the CIAA Championships)."
     Fayetteville State (12-17, 10-6 CIAA) was topped by sophomore Edmonda Richards with 12 kills and nine digs. Sophomore setter Amanda Flear collected 24 assists, 15 digs, five kills and four blocks for the Lady Broncos.
