MATTHEWS NAMED TO NCAA DIVISION II REGIONAL ALL-TOURNAMENT TEAM

LOCK HAVEN, PA - North Carolina Central University junior Shari Matthews was named to the 2006 NCAA Division II Women's Volleyball Atlantic Regional All-Tournament Team.
Matthews, an outside hitter from Bridgetown, Barbados, recorded a match-high 33 kills and added 12 digs and seven blocks in NCCU's 3-1 (30-16, 27-30, 30-28, 33-31) loss to eventual regional champion Lock Haven University of Pennsylvania on Thursday (Nov. 9).
The 2006 Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association and NCAA Division II Atlantic Region Player of the Year, Matthews' 33 kills during the first round of the regional playoffs increased her NCAA Division II record for kills in a single season to 974. She currently leads the nation in that category with an average of 6.37 kills per game.
Along with her record-breaking 974 kills, Matthews finished her junior campaign at NCCU with 140 service aces (0.92 per game), 513 digs (3.35 per game) and 95 blocks (0.62 per game).
The 32 wins by NCCU were the most in school history and head coach Georgette Crawford-Crooks' squad leaves the CIAA as winners of the past three conference championships.
