LADY EAGLES UPSET #23 LADY GOLDEN BULLS OF JOHNSON

DURHAM, NC - North Carolina Central University
sophomore forward Cassie King recorded her ninth double-double of
the season as the Lady Eagles upset the No. 23 ranked Lady Golden Bulls
of Johnson C. Smith University by a score of 63-49 on Tuesday afternoon
inside McLendon-McDougald Gym in Durham, NC.
The win by the Lady Eagles (9-10, 5-3 CIAA)
not only kept their five year home winning streak over the Lady Bulls intact
for another season, but halted both JCSU's 13-game overall winning streak
and their perfect eight game CIAA winning streak.
NCCU was led by
Cassie King, who had
27 points and 11 rebounds on 13-for-24 shooting from the field. The
Lady Eagles were also led by freshman guard Alisha Battle, who contributed
nine points, seven rebounds and five assists. Junior center Shante'
Collins also had another solid game with seven points and eight rebounds.
Johnson C. Smith (17-3, 8-1 CIAA) was led
by Lauren Goss, who had 13 points and six rebounds. Center Terri
Edwards also had a good game with eight points and 12 rebounds for the
Lady Bulls.
NCCU will take a five-game winning streak
into a Saturday (Feb. 5) home game against Winston- Salem State University
at 5:30 p.m. at McLendon-McDougald Gymnasium.
