NCCU’S ROBINSON NAMED CIAA WOMEN’S BASKETBALL COACH OF THE YEAR

CHARLOTTE, NC – North Carolina Central University head coach Joli Robinson has been voted as the 2007 CIAA Women’s Basketball Coach of the Year, the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association announced Sunday (Feb. 25).
Robinson, now in her 11th season as the leader of the Lady Eagles, has guided NCCU to a 22-5 overall record, the regular-season CIAA Western Division title, and the program’s first-ever national ranking at No. 25 in last week’s USA Today ESPN Division II Top 25 Coaches' Poll.
During her 11-year tenure at NCCU, Robinson has become the winningest head coach in Lady Eagle history with 177 victories. Her teams have accounted for all five 20-win campaigns in the 32-year history of women’s basketball at NCCU and have made four trips to the NCAA playoffs, with a fifth appearance pending. NCCU is currently ranked fourth in the South Atlantic regional poll.
This is Robinson’s third CIAA Coach of the Year honor, after earning the award in 1999 and 2001. She has also been selected as the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Division II District 3 Coach of the Year twice, including last season.
NCCU will play the winner of the Virginia Union/Virginia State contest in the second round of the CIAA Tournament on Tuesday at 7 p.m. in Charlotte, N.C.
