LADY EAGLES BASKETBALL JUMPS FOUR SPOTS TO NO. 19 IN NATIONAL POLL
DURHAM, NC -- North Carolina Central University
jumped four positions to No. 19 in this week's USA Today ESPN Division
II Top 25 Coaches' Poll, the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA)
announced Tuesday (March 6), marking the Lady Eagles highest ever national
ranking.
Coming off its first CIAA Tournament Championship
in 23 years, NCCU boasts an overall record of 25-5 and is currently enjoying
a school record 18-game win streak. The Lady Eagles entered the poll two
weeks ago at No. 25, then moved to No. 23 last week.
This year's squad has equaled the Lady Eagles
single-season standard with 25 victories and is the fifth in school history
to record 20 wins, all have occurred under 11-year head coach Joli Robinson,
the 2007 CIAA Women's Basketball Coach of the Year.
NCCU continues its season in the NCAA Division
II South Atlantic Region Championships on Friday, Mar. 9 against Newberry
College at Clayton State University in Morrow, Ga. Tip-off is 3 p.m.
