NCCU'S KING REPEAT SELECTION FOR NCCSIA ALL-STATE TEAM

Cassie King     SALISBURY, N.C. -- North Carolina Central University junior Cassie King has been named to the 2005-06 North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information Association (NCCSIA) College Division All-State Women's Basketball First Team, as voted upon by members of the NCCSIA.
     A 6-0 native of Wendell, N.C., King earned First-Team All-State honors for the second consecutive after finishing her junior campaign with 551 points (18.4 ppg), 271 rebounds (9.0 rpg), 68 steals (2.3 spg), 46 assists (1.5 apg) and 27 blocked shots. Her 551 points ranks third on NCCU's single-season record list. She was also the No. 1 free throw shooter in the CIAA, connecting on 80 percent from the charity stripe.
     In just three seasons, King has become the Lady  Eagles' all-time leading scorer with 1,623 career points, an average of 18.7 points per game.  King also boasts 822 career rebounds and is just the fourth Lady Eagle to reach the 800-rebound career milestone. 
     A two-time All-CIAA and All-Region performer, King led NCCU to its third-best season in school
 history with a 23-7 overall record and its fourth NCAA playoff appearance (1984, 2001, 2002, 2006).
     The teams consist of 10 student-athletes from North Carolina NCAA Division II and Division III colleges and universities.  Nominees were submitted by North Carolina sports information professionals.  NCCSIA members voted for the all-state teams.  Teams are selected for men and women in both the college and university (NCAA Division I) divisions.
      Founded in 2002, the North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information Association (NCCSIA) is comprised of sports information professionals from NCAA Division I, II, III, NAIA and independent institutions from the state of North Carolina.  The purpose of the organization is to promote collegiate athletics at all schools.  Membership is open to anyone affiliated with a college, university or conference located in North Carolina, and whose area of responsibility lies within sports information. 
     NCSSIA selects all-state teams in the University (Division I) and College (Division II, III, NAIA) divisions for men's and women's basketball, men's and women's soccer, softball and baseball.

NCCSIA Announces North Carolina All-State College Division Women's Basketball Team

     SALISBURY, N.C. -- The North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information Association (NCCSIA) announced its selections for the 2005-06 College Division All-State Women's Basketball Teams on Friday.
     The teams consist of 10 student-athletes from North Carolina NCAA Division II and Division III colleges and universities.  Nominees were submitted by North Carolina sports information professionals.  NCCSIA members voted for the all-state teams.  Teams are selected for men and women in both the college and university (NCAA Division I) divisions.

     Three first team selections are repeat picks from the 2004-05 All-State Team.  Cassie King of N.C. Central, Celeste Trahan of Elizabeth City State and Nicole Woods of Belmont Abbey were all first team selections last year. 
     King was a first team All-South Atlantic Region pick and a finalist for WBCA All-America honors this year as she became Central's all-time leading scorer.  She helped NCCU to a 23-7 record and the NCAA II playoffs, ranking third in Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association in scoring and fifth in rebounding.  King averaged 18.4 points and nine rebounds a contest.
     Trahan was named All-CIAA and was a third team Daktronics All-American.  She led NCAA Division II in rebounding for the third straight season, averaging 14.6 per game.  Trahan ranked second in scoring in the CIAA at 19.5 per contest and averaged two blocks.
     Woods was runner-up in NCAA II in scoring at 24.1 points per game.  The Carolinas-Virginia Athletic Conference Player of the Year scored 30 or more on seven occasions this season.  Woods also chipped in with 7.8 rebounds and 3.3 assists per contest.
     Tanetra Barrett, of Wingate, and Staci Humphrey, of Greensboro, round out the first team.  Barrett repeated as South Atlantic Conference Player of the Year in 2006 and was honorable mention Kodak All-American.  She averaged 19.8 points, 5.3 rebounds and 2.4 assists for the SAC Champions.  Humphrey was the USA South Player of the Year and was also a honorable mention Kodak All-American.  She averaged 22.7 points, 6.4 rebounds and 6.4 assists for the league champs.
     The second team consists of Teneal Boone, of Mount Olive, Natasha Boucicault, of Shaw, Jennifer King, of Guilford, Tia Saunders, of Peace, and Barton's Keauna Vinson.  Saunders and Vinson were second team All-State selections last year.
