NCCU'S KING EARNS ALL-STATE HONORS FROM NCCSIA
GREENSBORO, NC -- North Carolina Central University sophomore Cassie
King has been named to the inaugural North Carolina Collegiate Sports
Information Association (NCCSIA) College Division All-State Women's Basketball
Team released Friday (April 1).
The College Division All-State team consists
of non-NCAA Division I student-athletes from North Carolina colleges and
universities. Nominees were submitted by North Carolina sports information
professionals. NCCSIA members voted for the all-state teams.
King, a 6-0 forward from Wendell, NC, is the
nation's fourth leading scorer in NCAA Division II with an average of 22.9
points per game. She also averaged 9.8 rebounds, 2.2 steals and 1.2 blocked
shots per contest for the 16-13 Lady Eagles.
During her second season at NCCU, King set
a new single-season standard with 664 points, passing the mark set by Von
Fulmore during the 1985-86 campaign with 636 points. She amassed 14 double-doubles
and now has 22 for her college career. King was selected All-CIAA and named
to the CIAA All-Tournament Team for the second year in a row.
On March 1, King scored a school and conference
tournament record 59 points, more than any women's college basketball player
this season, during an 84-79 overtime win over Bowie State in the quarterfinals
of the CIAA Tournament. She shot 21-of-38 from the field and made 17-of-18
free throws, while adding a team-high 13 rebounds with no turnovers and
no fouls in 45 minutes of play.
The All-State basketball teams include five
student-athletes. Teams are selected for men and women in both the college
and university (NCAA Division I) divisions.
Founded in 2002, The North Carolina Collegiate
Sports Information Association (NCCSIA) is comprised of sports information
professionals from NCAA Division I, II, III, NAIA and independent institutions
from the state of North Carolina. The purpose of the organization is to
promote collegiate athletics at all schools. Membership is open to anyone
affiliated with a college, university or conference located in North Carolina,
and whose area of responsibility lies within sports information.
NCSSIA selects all-state teams in the University
(Division I) and College (Division II, III, NAIA) divisions for men's and
women's basketball, men's and women's soccer, softball and baseball.

NCCSIA Announces North Carolina All-State College Division Women's
Basketball Team

A transfer from NCAA Division I East Carolina,
Kim Enoch helped Greensboro to a school-record 21 wins and the second round
of the NCAA Division III playoffs. She averaged 18.2 points and 13.0 rebounds
per game and was named the Most Valuable Player of the USA South Athletic
Conference Tournament, which Greensboro won. A Mebane, N.C. resident, Enoch
received First Team D3hoops.com All-South Region honors.
North Carolina Central's Cassie King ranked
fourth among NCAA Division II scoring leaders (22.9 points per game) and
earned a spot on the All-Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA)
Team. She set school standards for points in a season (864) and game (59,
vs. Bowie State). Her 59-point showing in the CIAA Tournament also broke
the league record. The Wendell, N.C. resident was a Second Team Daktronics
All-South Atlantic Region pick this year.
Veronica Taylor joined King on the Second
Team All-South Atlantic squad and made a third straight appearance on the
All-South Atlantic Conference (SAC) Team. She averaged 16.2 points and
9.2 boards per game to help Wingate receive an at-large bid to the 2005
NCAA Division II Tournament.
The Columbia, S.C. resident made over 56 percent of her shots from
the floor, which ranked 18th in the nation.
The all-state team's lone rookie, Elizabeth
City State's Celeste Trahan received Second Team All-South Atlantic laurels
and the CIAA Rookie of the Year Award. She led NCAA Division II with 13.7
rebounds per game and averaged 16.2 points per outing. The Stockton, Calif.,
resident posted 19 double-doubles and helped ECSU reach the CIAA Tournament
finals. She set a CIAA Tournament record with 28 boards in the final against
nationally ranked Shaw.
Belmont Abbey's Nicole Woods is the lone guard
on the first team. She earned Daktronics NCAA Division II All-East Region
honors after averaging 18.5 points, 6.5 rebounds, 8.1 rebounds and 3.1
steals per game. The Gastonia, N.C., resident finished third among NCAA
Division II assists leaders and was a First Team All-Carolinas-Virginia
Athletic Conference honoree.
NCCSIA's College Division All-State Men's
Basketball Team, plus the men's and women's university division squads
will be announced next week.
