NCCU'S NWACHUKWU REPEATS AS CIAA ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

Jori Nwachukwu     HAMPTON, VA -- North Carolina Central University freshman forward Jori Nwachukwu (pronounced Jor-ee Wah-choo-koo) has been voted as the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association Women's Basketball Rookie of the Week for the second consecutive week, the conference office announced Monday (Dec. 11).
     Nwachukwu, a 5-10 native of Upper Marlboro, Md., averaged 21.5 points and 15.0 rebounds in two games during the week of Dec. 3-9, while adding eight steals, a blocked shot and an assist. 
     In her best effort of the week, Nwachukwu amassed 26 points, 14 rebounds, five steals and a blocked shot at Elizabeth City State on Dec. 5. She followed the performance with 17 points, 16 rebounds, three steals and an assist against Shaw on Dec. 9.
     She is currently averaging 15.0 points (seventh in CIAA) and 10.4 rebounds (fourth in CIAA) for NCCU (3-4), and is shooting 56.3 percent (third in CIAA) from the field.
     NCCU returns to the hardwood on Dec. 29-30 for the USC Upstate Classic in Spartanburg, S.C.
