$ - CIAA CHAMPIONS |
Ingrid Wicker-McCree joined the NCCU coaching family in 1994 as the
head coach for women's volleyball and softball, and has built traditional
competitors in both sports.
In August 1998, Wicker relinquished her title as head softball coach in order to serve as Assistant Athletics Director for Internal Affairs. She retired as Lady Eagle volleyball head coach following the 2005 campaign. Wicker-McCree is currently completing doctoral studies in Higher Education Administration at North Carolina State University, while also serving as a member of the NCAA Division II Legislative Committee and President of the CIAA Executive Board. She is a former member of the NCAA Division II National Volleyball Committee. She was selected as the 1999 CIAA Women's Volleyball Coach of the Year after leading the Lady Eagles to the first CIAA volleyball championship in school history (see story on conference championship). Along the way, Wicker-McCree claimed her 200th victory at NCCU. Wicker-McCree also became the first head coach in school history to win conference championships in two different sports, leading the softball team to its first-ever CIAA title in 1998 and completing the same task with volleyball in 1999. In 2002, she received her second CIAA Women's Volleyball Coach of the Year honor after guiding the Lady Eagles to the most match victories in school history with an overall record of 30-18. In 2005, she earned her third CIAA Coach of the Year award after leading the Lady Eagles to their second consecutive conference title and the program's first undefeated record against league opponents. A native of Durham, Wicker-McCree enjoyed a stellar career at C.E. Jordan High School, playing on two North Carolina State Volleyball Championship teams. She continued her playing career at George Washington University. After graduating from George Washington with a bachelor's degree in criminal justice in 1989, Wicker-McCree then traveled to San Juan, Puerto Rico, where she was a member of the San Juan Las Chicas Professional Volleyball Team for one season. Upon her return to the mainland, Wicker-McCree earned a Master's degree in December 1991 in Recreation Resources Administration from N.C. State University, where she coached with the women's volleyball team as a graduate assistant. After a two-year stint as head coach at N.C. A&T (11-28 in 1992, 15-35 in 1993), Wicker-McCree returned to her hometown to take the reins of the NCCU women's volleyball program. In her first season, Wicker-McCree led the Lady Eagles to the CIAA Spring Sports Championships with a third place finish in the Southern Division. (see WICKER-McCREE'S RECORDS) Wicker-McCree has also been involved as a player and coach in the USAV Carolina Region for the past six years. She served as Director of three USAV Junior Olympic Teams (ages 18, 16, 14 & under) and Director of the Y.M.C.A. Middle School Girls' Volleyball Camp (ages 10-14). In softball, Wicker-McCree, along with assistant coach J.D. Hall, has guided the Lady Eagles to a CIAA Southern Division regular season title in 1997, and the school's first-ever CIAA Championship in softball in 1998. (see story on conference championship) She is married to Geno McCree, and they are the proud parents of Sydney Lorraine McCree. E-Mail Ingrid Wicker at: iwicker@nccu.edu |
