All things, they say, must
come to an end.
And it has been a wonderful
journey for the number one seed Martina Wilkins of the N.C. Central University
women's tennis team,
Wilkins will play some of
her last games in this coming weekend at the 2003 CIAA Tennis Tournament
in Charlotte.
While the top seed for her
team for her last two years, Wilkins has taken on the role of a leader.
Wilkins said the team had
its challenges this year, especially with three inexperienced players.
Still, the Lady Eagles are
going into the tournament as a third seed.
"We could have done better,
but expect the unexpected," said Wilkins.
"You never know what might
happen. I just go out there and play the best that I can play."
Wilkins also says that competition
this year was much tougher than last year in the CIAA.
"All the number one seeds
were pretty good this year, but I think Johnson C. Smith had the toughest,"
she said. "They usually have a good team."
As her final playing days
wind down, Wilkins said she will not forget about her years at NCCU.
"I will miss playing here
because of the road trips, joking with my teammates and being able to crack
on them," she said.
"I will miss those who were
all supportive of me." |
