LADY EAGLES, EAGLES SWEEP NCCU CROSS COUNTRY INVITATIONAL
DURHAM, NC -- North Carolina Central University
won both the women's and men's events during the running of the annual
NCCU Cross Country Invitational at Forest Hills Park in Durham, NC.
The NCCU women won in convincing fashion by
placing five runners in the top seven. NCCU sophomore Yolanda Barber, the
reigning CIAA cross country champion, settled for second place (22:04.73)
after being caught from behind at the tape by Shaw's Lisa Stewart, who
posted a winning time of 22:04.48 on the 3.1-mile course. NCCU junior Aisha
Brown placed third (22:07), followed by Rejon Littlepage (22:24), LaKisha
Gantt (22:57) and Latanya Lesine (23:03), who finished fifth through seventh
for the Lady Eagles.
The NCCU men captured a narrow one-point victory
over Shaw (27-28), as the Eagles Placed three runners in the top five.
Junior Rashaad Lee topped NCCU with a second-place effort (27:06), followed
by Robert Curington (27:29) in fourth and Gerald Jones (28:08) in fifth.
Shaw's Maurice Styles, Jr. won the men's 5-mile
race with a time of 26:50.79.
